REACH is the proposal for a new regulation framework for the registration of chemicals in the EU. It stands for
Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals.
The aim of reach is to improve the protection of human health and the environment by regulating and publishing data about chemical substances produced or imported in the EU.
Registration of chemicals according to REACH will require information about the intrinsic properties, hazards and risk assessment of each chemical substance and includes physico-chemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties.
The REACH legislation is expected to enter into force in 2007.
