TIER I studies with carabid and staphylinid beetles, as well as with spiders are conducted on quartz sand or using artificial soil. The test item is applied by mixing it with the substrate or by spraying it onto the substrate surface. TIER II studies with beneficial arthropods are conducted using natural soil. Besides standard spray applications, coated seeds, pellets, granules or metabolites are tested using modified test designs.
